Felt - The Strange Idols Pattern and Other Short Stories (1984)
“Roman Litter”
“Sempiternal Darkness” (Deebank)
“Spanish House”
“Imprint”
“Sunlight Bathed the Golden Glow”
“Vasco Da Gama”
“Crucifix Heaven” (removed from CD reissues)
“Crystal Ball”
“Dismantled King Is off the Throne”
“Whirlpool Vision of Shame”

Notes:  An old friend of mine played me Felt originally. He had this and a second album on tape in his car. I soon had a car with only a tape deck and inherited the tape once he left town. I couldnt stop listening. It was a world apart from any other band i heard at the time. Songs like Roman Litter and Vasco Da Gama excited me so much. It was like hearing this band trying to make pop music without any reference to the outside world. These complex, chiming, guitar melodies, this desperate, odd, vocalist with these equally strange and wry lyrics. They lived in a place all by themselves. Which is probably why they never got very popular. That and the band’s leader Lawrence was a sabotage of his own success.
For fans of:  The Smiths, Orange Juice, any 80s guitar-based pop, hot summers, cold winters, singers with one name, even hotter summers, big hats
