Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - Dazzle Ships (1982)
Radio Prague
Genetic Engineering
ABC Auto-Industry
Telegraph
This Is Helena
International
Dazzle Ships [Part ||, ||| & V||]
The Romance Of The Telescope
Silent Running
Radio Waves
Time Zones
Of All The Things We’ve Made
Notes:  I feel a bit funny posting this, since this album was actually the first album StrangeIdols ever shared with me, it’s one of his all time favorites, but I hope he understands because it’s now become one of mine as well.  I’ve just been reading up on this on Wiki and apparently when it first came out it was critically panned, a concept which makes me feel a bit sick to my stomach, and reminds me that the struggle to bring synthpop into the mainstream as a legitimate, intellectual genre to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with post punk is still happening.  This is a complex, many layered, intelligent album full of rich melodies and beautiful soundscapes, but ultimately at it’s core it’s a fantastically listenable pop record that makes you want to smile and cry at once.
For fans of:  synthesizers, shortwave radio, heartbreakingly incredible pop songs, New Order, Soft Cell, Echo & The Bunnymen
